Camphill Community Ballybay - Camphill Community of Ireland

Camphill Community Ballybay is a residential care facility for people with special needs with a farm and a horticultural enterprise. Our aim is to provide a therapeutic environment for our residents who are very much involved and included in the daily work on the farm and in the garden.

Our mixed holding incorporates a small milking herd in which replacements are reared and bullocks kept for beef. We also have a small flock of laying hens. We grow our own cereals, a combi-crop of oats and peas which is fed to our animals. A potato crop is also part of our crop rotation. All our silage and hay is done by ourselves.

Our gardening team grows a wide variety of vegetables in our allotments and 3 greenhouses as well as field vegetables which supply our three households - any surplus is sold at our local farmers market in Ballybay town. They also take great care of our soft fruit and little apple orchard.

All in all we try to have our holding as self-sufficient as possible so that very little needs to be bought-in from outside.

Our future plan is to broaden our diversity with some honeybee colonies or a small flock of sheep. We are also hoping to have a hay drying system installed very shortly.

For further questions or interest in our produce, please feel free to contact us by phone or email or via our website.
