Galway natives, Tom and John Nestor, started their business in the late 1980’s with a Fruit and Veg shop in Fr Griffin Road. Over time they saw a niche in the market and decided to convert the shop into a supermarket. They joined the Londis Symbol Group after consulting a family friend. In December 2000, the Oranmore Branch was opened in the newly constructed Orantown Centre. The Ballybane Branch in 2001 in the former Kumarket Store. The Ballybane Branch was revamped in the following spring. In 2001 our Fr Griffin Road Branch was demolished and a brand new store was built, at a site next door to our older store.
In September 2002, they joined Musgrave Supervalu/Centra which operate on a Franchise basis as part of the Musgrave Group and began to trade under the Supervalu/Centra brand. This change was to give our customers a better choice and of course better prices as part of the SuperValu Group.
A revamp of the Oranmore Branch was completed in August 2010. This has transformed the entrance to the store and brought to life the vibrancy of the fruit and veg, butchery and bakery departments, that have been the corner stones of our business for years.
Ballybane under went a revamp in 2008 improving the range of products stocked adding a new off-licence and increasing the number of promotional lines offer to the customer. More recently there has had a facelift to the front of the store.
Our Fr. Griffin Rd store was revamped in June 2009. The store was extended by 3,000 sq. ft. with increased space given to fresh food sections, a wider range of grocery, an off-licence and more special offer to deliver value to our customers.
In 2012 Nestor's SuperValu Oranmore were awarded an organic licence by Organic Trust Limited for the sale of loose certified organic salmon and trout.
